Members of Airport Armed Police (AAP) at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport foiled a foreign currency smuggling bid seizing foreign currencies worth around Tk1.40 crore from two Malaysia-bound passengers prior to their boarding a flight on Wednesday night.
The arrested passengers are Samar Uddin, 41, and Md Ismail, 31.
AAP members challenged the two passengers seeing their suspicious movement near departure gate no-3 around 9:00 pm.
They were scheduled to fly for Kuala Lampur by an aircraft of Bangladesh Biman Airlines, said Assistant Superintendent of Police of AAP Tanjina Khatun.
After a search, the AAP members recovered foreign currencies of various countries, mostly Saudi Arabian, from inside their shoes, she added.
During interrogation, the arrestees admitted that they had been involved in currency smuggling for long, ASP Tanjina added.
