Arrested Sumon Islam Patwari, member of the militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT), admitted that he stormed into the office of publisher Ahmedur Rashid Tutul and attacked him with machete three times, police claimed on Thursday.
DMP Additional Police Commissioner and Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime Unit Chief M Manirul Islam said five militants including Sumon were in the attack at Shuddhaswar Prakashani office. All of them were carrying machete, reports BSS.
Claiming 20-yr-old Sumon admitted his involvement in the attack on Ahmedur Rashid Tutul, Monirul Islam made the statement at a press conference at DMP (Dhaka Metropolitan Police) media centre.
The police officer said Suman, who passed HSC from Chittagong and has been working there, received training of making bombs from militant outfit Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT).
However, Sumon was produced in a Dhaka court today. Police sought ten days but Dhaka's Metropolitan Magistrate Lutfur Rahman granted them five days to question him who was arrested from Airport road area in the capital around 10.30pm on Wednesday.
On Oct 31, 2015, Tutul and secular writers Tarek Rahim and Ranadipam Basu were attacked at the office of Suddhaswar.
