TK 5 bank note will be issued as currency note

The government will issue newly introduced Taka 5 note as the government currency note from June 5, said Finance Division of Finance Ministry press release on Monday.

Senior Secretary of Finance Division Mahbub Ahmed will sign the note which will be available at Bangladesh Bank headquarters from June 5 and other offices of the central bank later, the release said.

President Abdul Hamid gave consent on November 21, 2015 on the issuance of Taka 5 note as the government currency note.

Finance Minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith today handed over a crest with two specimen copies of newly introduced Taka 5 government currency note to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the cabinet meeting.

The Taka 5 note or coin was earlier issued as a bank note and coin. But with the passage of Bangladesh Coinage (Amendment) Act 2015 by parliament, Taka 5 note or coin will now be considered as the government currency note or coin.
