3 of Rangpur quintuplets die

Three of the quintuplets born to a woman at Rangpur Medical College Hospital have died on Thursday.

Waiting for the first baby for 12 years into her marriage, Arjina Begum of Badlagari village in Sadulyapur upazila in Gaibandha district gave birth to the quintuplets at the hospital on Tuesday night.

However, three of them-- one female and two males-- died at the hospital this afternoon, said Dr Shahi Farzana Tasnim, assistant professor at the gynaecology department of the hospital, UNB reports.

The mother and the two other babies are, however, fine and in good health, she said.

Earlier, Arjina was taken to the hospital on Tuesday afternoon with labour pain.

Later, she gave birth to three sons and two daughters through a caesarean section conducted by a team of gynaecologists, led by assistant professor Sirajum Munira.
