Everybody calls me as ‘Doctor to the poor’: Actor Ezazul Islam

Actor Dr. Ezazul Islam

Dr. Ezazul Islam. Though, he is mainly known for his acting, he has another identity too. He is also a successful doctor. He regularly sits in his chamber at Gazipur intersection. Which profession he enjoys most? To know the answer, just go through this interview taken by Mahatab Hossain.

How are you? Are you busy?

I’m fine. At this moment I am staying at Moulovibazar for shooting purpose. Hardly have I got any chance to go out of Dhaka for shooting. But every year I usually try to manage at least four days for Eid shooting.

It seems you are very busy with your shooting?

No, not like that. I usually got engaged for half-day shooting and for that reason I usually take my wage for half-day.

Anyway, how do you judge yourself both as an actor and as a doctor?

I always consider myself as a substandard actor. But I must try to dedicate myself according to director’s demand. On the other hand, as a doctor I only try to deliver my treatment as per my knowing. I never indulge myself into wrong treatment.

From where have you completed your study?

I have completed my MBBS from Rangpur Medical College and Hospital. And then completed my DNM (Post Graduation Diploma in Nuclear Medicine) from PG (now Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University).

Where is your chamber, how much you claim from the patient?

Very interesting question. My chamber is in Gazipur. Basically I don’t demand from the patients, it ranges from Tk 300-Tk 00. Patients usually pay according to their ability, though my counterparts are claiming at least Tk 600. And for this reason, people give me a title that is “Doctor to the poor”. When they call me by this name my heart fills with joy.

You have worked with Humayun Ahmed, it would be great if you share some of your experiences with him-

Humayun Ahmed was a great personality. I wouldn’t get such a man like him ever. It seemed like a festival when we got a chance to work with him. Too many memories with him have completely been mesmerized me. Which one would I tell…

Please say something about your work in your hand at this moment-

Now, I am busy with a 7-episode Eid drama titled ‘Love and Co’. It is composed by Mamun-Ar-Rashid, and directed by Al Hajen. Another drama serial titled ‘Somrat’ is on air at ntv. ‘Somrat’ is composed by Shafiqur Rahman Santonu and directed by Syed Shakil. Fazlur Rahaman’s ‘Jiboner Oli Goli’ is also on air at ATN Bangla. Some more dramas are also under process to go on air.
