Bangladesh get 4-2 win against Sri Lanka

The home team Bangladesh got a flying start with a resounding win over Sri Lanka by 4-2 goals in the opening match of Bangabandhu Gold Cup Football Tournament at Shamsul Huda Stadium in Jessore on Friday afternoon.


Mamunul Islam and his men netted thrice in the first half and added another five minutes before the final whistle.


Shakhawat Hossain Roni scored twice while Nabib Newaz Jibon, and Yeasin Khan scored one each for Bangladesh on way to secure a handsome win against the Islanders.


It was  necessary for Bangladesh  to get a win after the consecutive failure in the World Cup qualifiers and recent most in the SAFF Championship.


Bangladesh gripped the control of the match from the beginning and luckily got a chance to get a break through on the 3rd minute of the match but Jibon failed to net the ball.


The home team successfully dominated over the visiting team as Roni scored a fine goal on the 20th minute. The excitement of the match reached its peak when Lankan Edison Figurado got the equalizer from penalty kick.


Yeasin extended the lead for Bangladesh 2-1 on the 22nd minute of the match.


Just before the interval Jibon scored a goal and the home team walked out from the ground for interval taking 3-1 lead against Sri Lanka.


After the interval Bangladesh had to face Lankan charge and they lessened the equation 3-2 when Chaturanga netted the ball on 52th minute.


Just before the final whistle Roni again extended the lead 4-2 at 86 minutes.


Bangladesh finally left the home ground with a comprehensive win against Asian counterpart Sri Lanka by 4-2 goals.
