BNP dishonoured people's verdict through rejecting the results of the December-30 municipal polls, said ruling Awami League on Thursday.
"We see in every election that if the result goes in favour of BNP, they term the election a fair one, but if the result goes against the party, they say it does not reflect people's verdict, " Awami League joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif said.
The ruling party leader was addressing a press conference at the AL president's Dhanmondi political office in the city.
Earlier in the day, BNP at a press conference rejected the polls results, saying the government snatched the people's verdict through holding farcical municipal polls.
Hanif observed that the country’s people did not accept the remarks of BNP chairperson Khaleda Zia on the Liberation War and the number of martyrs in the month of victory.
He also said through participating in the municipal polls, BNP recognised the legality of the present government, and urged the party to accept the people’s verdict.
"Through rejecting the results of municipals polls, they decided to dishonour the voters and the people. We’ll request BNP to move away from its position and accept the result," Hanif added.
