Swechchhasebak Dal protests AI-driven smear campaign

The Pallabi Police Station unit of BNP’s volunteer wing, Jatiyatabadi Swechchhasebak Dal in Dhaka North has strongly condemned what it described as a smear campaign involving fake images and misinformation generated through artificial intelligence (AI) technology on social media.

In a protest statement sent to the media early Saturday (23 May), the organisation alleged that a vested group had been spreading fabricated content using AI tools in an attempt to tarnish the image of State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque.

The statement claimed that there is no member or activist named “Zakir Hossain Sohel” within the Pallabi unit or its affiliated Ward No. 5 unit of Swechchhasebak Dal.

According to the organisation, the individual in question has been identified as a rapist and murderer and has no organisational connection with the party.

Leaders of the unit alleged that false and manipulated information was being circulated deliberately to malign political figures through unethical use of AI technology.

The protest statement, signed by Pallabi Thana Swechchhasebak Dal Convener Mehedi Hasan Babu and Member Secretary Rabiul Karim Babu, strongly condemned the alleged conspiracy and called for those responsible to be identified and brought to justice.
