Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Shafiqur Rahman has alleged that games are being played in several constituencies in the 13th National Parliamentary Election and Referendeum.

He made the allegation at an emergency press conference held at the party’s central office on Friday midnight.

Speaking at the press conference, Shafiqur said that candidates of the 11-party alliance are leading in many constituencies.

“However, in those seats, the returning officers are not announcing the results,” he alleged.

He claimed that delaying the publication of results could create confusion and urged the concerned authorities to take immediate steps in this regard.

The Jamaat ameer said the Election Commission had stated that the results would be announced by 13 February.

“We will remain patient until then,” he said.

“If they fail to do so, we will wait within reasonable limits. Meanwhile, in several constituencies, a cat-and-mouse game is going on. Why is the Dhaka-8 seat still hanging? What is happening there? You journalists know. These matters do not reflect healthy politics; rather, they indicate unhealthy political practices,” he added.

Responding to questions from journalists, he said, “We cannot yet confirm how many seats we have won, as the results of many constituencies are still being withheld. We are certain that, based on the booth-level signed result sheets in our possession, we are ahead. But locally, various tactics are being used. We are being told that the results need further verification—this and that—but we do not understand what exactly is being verified.”

When asked whether he suspects vote rigging, Shafiqur said, “Many things have happened. But we do not want to say anything right now. Once the final information comes into our hands, the leaders of the 11-party alliance will sit together, compile the data, and announce our decision.”
