BNP Chairman Tarique Rahman addressed a large public rally in Thakurgaon on Saturday as part of the party’s election campaign across three northern districts.

He arrived at the Government Boys’ High School ground and took to the stage at around 11:45am, marking his return to Thakurgaon after a gap of 23 years.

BNP Media Cell member Shairul Kabir Khan said Tarique Rahman had earlier launched grassroots-level union representative conferences from Thakurgaon on 4 January in 2003, an event inaugurated by then Health Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain.

The rally formally began at 11:00am with recitations from the Holy Quran, followed by readings from the Holy Gita and the Holy Bible, highlighting religious harmony.

The event was presided over by District BNP President Mirza Faisal Amin, while General Secretary Poygam Ali moderated the proceedings.

From early morning, party leaders and activists arrived at the venue in small processions. Many carried placards featuring images of BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, a native of Thakurgaon, along with BNP candidates from Thakurgaon and Panchagarh districts.

BNP candidates present at the rally included Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir (Thakurgaon-1), Abdus Salam (Thakurgaon-2), Jahidur Rahman Jahid (Thakurgaon-3), Naushad Zamir (Panchagarh-1), Farhad Hossain Azad (Panchagarh-2), and Manjurul Islam (Panchagarh-3).

Earlier in the day, Tarique Rahman arrived in Saidpur on a Biman Bangladesh Airlines flight from Dhaka before traveling to Thakurgaon by helicopter.

Later on Saturday, he is scheduled to address additional public rallies at Nilphamari’s Boromath ground at around 1:30 pm and at Birampur Government College ground in Dinajpur at 2:30 pm.
