Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir on Sunday said adequate security measures had been taken to ensure the peaceful celebration of Durga Puja, the biggest religious festival of the Hindu community.
He made the remarks while chairing a law and security meeting on Shardiya Durga Puja at Police Headquarters in the capital.
The IGP said police had adopted a three-tier security plan covering the pre-puja, puja, and post-puja periods, including idol immersion. Security operations have already begun.
He urged all concerned to remain vigilant against attempts to disrupt communal harmony and stressed greater public participation through community and beat policing.
Expressing hope that the festival would be celebrated safely, as in previous years, he directed field-level officers to take immediate action against those spreading misleading posts, propaganda, rumours or images on social media to undermine communal harmony.
Puja organising committees were urged to keep CCTV cameras operational, ensure adequate lighting and standby generators at mandaps and immersion sites, and deploy volunteers round the clock.
