Fire hits two abandoned railway coaches in Ctg

A fire broke out in two abandoned railway coaches in the city's Bangla Bazar area on Friday evening.
Firefighters brought the blaze under control around 6:15pm, according to the Fire Service and Civil Defence control room.
Chattogram Fire Service Assistant Director Tawfiq-ul Islam Bhuiyan said three units from two fire stations responded. The cause of the fire and the extent of the damage would be ascertained after an investigation, he said.
Railway (East) Divisional Railway Manager Mostafizur Rahman Bhuiyan said the coaches had been kept on the Banglabazar railway line because they were no longer fit for use. The fire damaged them partially, he said.
Two other abandoned coaches caught fire near the Banglabazar water tank on 26 April. Local residents said at the time that drug users often gathered inside such coaches and sometimes set fires there.
