Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer and Leader of the Opposition Dr Shafiqur Rahman has called for an end to political considerations in the recruitment of primary school teachers, urging authorities to prioritise merit and qualifications.
In a post on his verified Facebook page, he said entry into government jobs should not depend on political allegiance and that merit and qualifications should be the sole criteria for recruitment.
He also called for an end to practices from the previous regime carried out in the name of verification. “Abandon these misdeeds of the fascist era in the name of verification,” he said, adding that the public would not tolerate any similar “conspiracy”.
Shafiqur Rahman said protests and resistance would continue with public participation and urged young people, including meritorious youths, to raise their voices to protect their rights.
He warned that making concessions could turn Bangladesh into a “haven for meritless fascism”, adding that there was no scope for compromise on the issue.
