Discussion on online gambling held in Faridpur

Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Friday organised a discussion meeting at Talma union parishad in Nagarkanda upazila of Faridpur to raise awareness about the harmful effects of online gambling and discourage people from becoming addicted to it.
The programme was presided over by unit President and Talma union parishad Chairman Md Kamal Hossain, while local dignitaries and Shuvosangho members also spoke at the event.
The speakers said online gambling is spreading rapidly due to the easy availability of technology, with young people increasingly being drawn into the addiction by the temptation of earning easy money.
The addiction is contributing to mental stress, depression, family disputes, social degradation and criminal activities, they added.
The speakers urged parents to maintain friendly and open relationships with their children and monitor their online activities to help prevent the spread of online gambling, advising young people to engage in sports, literature, cultural activities, volunteering and other creative pursuits as alternatives to online gambling.
The speakers called for coordinated efforts by families, educational institutions, social organisations and the administration to raise awareness and address the growing problem of online gambling.
