Bashundhara Shuvosangho on Tuesday organised a literary gathering and discussion titled “Milan Mohona” in Lalmonirhat to mark the birthday of renowned novelist, Bashundhara Group Adviser and Bashundhara Shuvosangho chief Imdadul Haq Milan.
To share the joy of his birthday with underprivileged children, Shuvosangho also arranged a meal for more than 50 children.
The Shuvosangho Lalmonirhat district unit organised the event at Sarpukur Jubo Forum Library, with poets, writers, students and children taking part. The speakers discussed Milan’s literary career, creativity, philosophy of life, human values and contributions to Bangla literature.
Unit President Md Jamal Hossain chaired the programme.
Among others, poet and writer Nazira Parvin Topi, poets Raihan, Jahangir Alam and Bhakta Kumar Roy, poet-artist Niramoy Kumar Roy, poet Jannatul Mawa, and Shuvosangho leaders Jannati Khatun, Ashiq, Mahbubur Rahman and Kakoli Khatun attended.
Nazira Parvin led a discussion on Milan’s widely read book “Tomake Bhalobeshe Chhilam”, saying his simple and engaging language and profound portrayal of human emotions, love, nature, suffering and struggles have made his works popular across generations.
Jamal Hossain said Milan is a guiding figure for the young generation whose writings promote social values, patriotism and reading habits. He added that a writer’s birthday should also be an opportunity to introduce young people to the writer’s works and ideas about humanity.
The speakers also highlighted the importance of library-based literary gatherings in developing reading habits among young people amid the rapid expansion of technology and social media.
The programme ended with a doa mahfil for Milan’s long life, good health and wellbeing, followed by a cake-cutting ceremony.
