IGP calls missing children coverage ‘yellow journalism’, claims conspirators within force

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Md Ali Hossain Fakir described the “widespread media coverage of general diaries filed over missing children” as a conspiracy by “yellow journalists”.
He said there are collaborators within the force who are involved in the conspiracy, claiming that they have been identified.
The IGP made the remarks on Saturday while attending a cleanliness programme at Rajarbagh Police Lines School and College in the capital. “Cases of child disappearance existed in the past as well. But highlighting them extensively in the media is conspiratorial,” he said.
The IGP said that rumours are being spread on social media to embarrass the government and that there should be a policy on what can and cannot be done.
Speaking at another event earlier in the day, Ali Hossain said drug peddlers and muggers cannot be kept in custody for long despite being arrested due to legal restrictions.
“As a result, these criminals are committing the same crimes again after their release,” the IGP said.
Community Bank organised the programme, titled “My city, my country – Bangladesh changes through cleanliness”, at Viqarunnisa Noon School and College in the capital.
The IGP said police are conducting regular drives against drug peddling and mugging.
He urged people from all walks of life to come forward to prevent drug peddling and mugging instead of relying solely on the police.
