Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon on Wednesday said Tk5 crore will be allocated from the education budget for talented scout students who have secured GPA-5 in the SSC and HSC examinations.
He made the remarks at the annual reception for meritorious scouts and rover scouts who secured GPA-5 in the 2025 SSC and HSC examinations, organised by the Special Events Department of Bangladesh Scouts at the capital’s International Mother Language Institute.
He said students learn public service, leadership, love for people and dedication to the country through scouting, adding, “Such programmes help develop future leaders.”
Milon emphasised the importance of sports and moral education in preventing drug addiction and promoting moral values in society. “That is why sports programmes have been introduced from the primary level,” he said.
At the reception, 580 students received medals, appreciation certificates, prescribed travel expenses and Tk2,000 through online payments.
Prime Minister’s Adviser on Education Dr Mahdi Amin attended the event as the special guest. He said the government would provide maximum support to students, adding that the prime minister always emphasises that everyone does not necessarily have to become a doctor or an engineer.
“With state support, meritorious students will play an important role as responsible citizens in contributing to the welfare of the country in the future,” he said.
“We will provide opportunities and support from the government for students to study subjects they enjoy and feel comfortable focusing on,” Mahdi Amin said.
