Prime Minister’s Foreign Affairs Adviser Humayun Kabir on Monday called for deeper Bangladesh-China cooperation through stronger institutional partnerships and greater exchanges of knowledge and expertise, stressing that closer connectivity is vital for regional development.
Speaking at the opening of the four-day “Comparative Governance Forum 2026” in Dhaka, he said the long-standing friendship between the two countries had grown into a Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, while the recently announced “Bangladesh-China Community with a Shared Future for the New Era” had elevated bilateral ties to a new level. The forum, jointly organised by the Bangladesh Institute of International and Strategic Studies (BIISS) and Fudan University’s School of International Relations and Public Affairs (SIRPA), was held at the BIISS auditorium.
Kabir said long-term prosperity depended not only on economic growth but also on strong institutions, resilient societies and effective international cooperation. Highlighting Bangladesh’s strategic location, he said it offered significant opportunities to expand regional connectivity and strengthen cooperation in trade, tourism, investment and cultural exchanges.
He added that Bangladesh remained committed to working with China and other development partners on sustainable infrastructure, aviation, tourism and innovation to promote shared prosperity. Expressing optimism over the recent meeting between Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Chinese President Xi Jinping, Kabir said the high-level engagement would inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations.
He described China’s economic transformation as one of the most remarkable development success stories of modern times, noting that nearly 800 million people had been lifted out of extreme poverty through decades of sustained reforms and pragmatic policymaking. China’s advances in electric vehicles, renewable energy, advanced manufacturing and scientific research, he said, offered valuable lessons for Bangladesh.Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen reaffirmed Beijing’s commitment to the partnership, describing China as Bangladesh’s “trustworthy good friend, good neighbour and good partner”.
He said Bangladesh’s long-term development would depend on maintaining political cohesion and social stability, diversifying its economy beyond a single industry and fostering a supportive international environment.
