Eminent musician and Nazrul Sangeet exponent Sohrab Hossain died at a city hospital on Thursday morning at the age of 91.
Hospital sources said Sohrab Hossain breathed his last around 6:00am. He was admitted to the hospital 11 days ago with kidney problem and other health complications.
He was under the supervision of kidney specialist Dr Wahab Khan.
Sohrab Hossain was born on April 9, 1922 in Ayeshtala village near Ranaghat in Nadia district in West Bengal of India.
President Zillur Rahman has expressed his deep shock at the death of Sohrab Hossain.
In a condolence message, the President said the nation will remember forever the contribution made by Sohrab to the field of pure and classical music. “The nation has lost an eminent musician at his death.”
Zillur Rahman prayed for the peace of the departed soul and conveyed his profound sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also expressed her deep shock at the death of Sohrab Hossain.
In a condolence message, the Prime Minister said his death is an irreparable loss in the music arena of the country.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia also expressed her deep shock at the death of renowned musician Sohrab Hossain.
In a condolence message, Khaleda, also Leader of the Opposition in Parliament, said Sohrab Hossain is an unforgettable name of this subcontinent for Nazrul Sangeet.
Khaleda termed Sohrab’s death an irreparable loss to the country’s field of music.
She prayed for salvation of the departed soul and conveyed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
