Bangladesh-Luxembourg Business TiesStress on initiatives to dig out untapped trade potentials

CHITTAGONG: The governments of Bangladesh and Luxembourg should take initiatives to open up new business potentials in the form of trade and investment between the two countries.

President of Bangladesh Business Chamber of Commerce in Luxembourg (BBCCL) Roy Suhash made the observation at a meeting with the leaders of Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI) in the port city Saturday.

The meeting was held at CCCI president’s chamber at World Trade Centre.

Roy Suhash said, “At present, Bangladeshi products enter Luxemburg via Germany and Belgium, adding additional transportation costs to the products.”

He, however, said there was an ample scope of making direct export and expanding market of Bangladeshi products in Luxembourg.

Therefore, he suggested for setting up a hub point of Bangladeshi products in Luxembourg.

In this regard, the BBCCL president invited CCCI to participate in the upcoming trade fair in Luxembourg scheduled in April-May 2013.

CCCI President Murshed Murad Ibrahim in his speech underscored the need for identifying potential sectors and working under joint collaboration to establish a strong business tie between the countries.

He also put emphasis on appointing a Honourary Consul of Luxembourg in Bangladesh to accelerate bilateral relations between the countries.

CCCI Senior Vice President Mahbubul Alam urged the BBCCL president for making arrangement to import pharmaceuticals, leather products and manpower from Bangladesh.

CCCI Director Morshed Arif Chowdhury requested the BBCCL president for taking initiatives to employ Bangladeshi workforce in required different sectors including restaurants in Luxembourg.

BBCCL Bangladesh Coordinator Biswajit Roy called for specific proposal in order to attract investment from Luxembourg in prospective sectors of Bangladesh.

CCCI directors S M Mahbubul Islam, Md Ahid Siraj Chowdhury, and Marine Bay International Managing Director Navin Anwar also took part in the discussion.
