Kaler Kontho Journo injured by terrorist attack in Pabna
Pabna: Abdullah Al Mamun, regional correspondent of the vernacular daily Kaler Kantho, was injured in an attack allegedly led by a relative of the State Minister for Home Affairs in Bera upazila headquarters on Monday morning.
Witnesses and family sources said a group of 7/8 criminals, led by Aminul Islam, the nephew of Shamsul Hoque Tuku, swooped on Mamun while he was gossiping at a tearoom at Bera Bazar at about 10 am.
They beat the journalist indiscriminately until he fell unconscious, and left the scene.
Later, locals rescued Mamun and whisked him off to Bera Upazila Health Complex where doctors referred him to Pabna Medical College Hospital. The journalist did not regain his senses as of 1 pm.
Local journalist leaders condemned the attack on their colleague and demanded arrest and punishment of those responsible.
Family sources said Mamun came under the attack as he published a report headlined “Relatives of MP Tuku get TR (Test Relief), Kabikha (food for work programme) and tenders” in his newspaper on May 11 which angered the nephew of the State Minister.
