30 Bangladeshis to receive 
higher edn in Japan

Bangladesh and Japan on Tuesday signed exchange of notes under a project for Japanese Grant Aid for Human Resource Development Scholarship (JDS), reports UNB. Japanese Ambassador in Dhaka Masato Watanabe and Economic Relations Division secretary Kazi Shofiqul Azam signed the document representing respective governments. Chief Representative of JICA Bangladesh Office Takatoshi Nishikata also attended the signing ceremony and signed the grant agreement for the project held at the ERD. The yearly intake of 15 which stayed constant between 2010 and 2014 has doubled to 30 by last year, making Bangladesh the second biggest among the 13 JDS participant countries, said the Japanese Embassy in Dhaka. Since 2002 to date, 298 Bangladeshi officials have studied in Japan under the JDS scheme. The government of Japan has increased the annual number of JDS awardees from Bangladesh significantly during the past few years. In addition, the government of Japan has decided to open up the JDS scheme for Ph.D candidates from this fiscal year.
