Ambassador Mushfiqul Fazal Ansarey, currently attached to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has said Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s address at the 81st United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) and his meetings with world leaders on the sidelines will further strengthen Bangladesh’s interests, dignity and prospects.
In a Facebook post on Monday (21 September), Ansarey said he believed the heads of state and government attending the General Assembly would be moved by the Prime Minister’s speech.
“The elected Prime Minister of Bangladesh, Tarique Rahman, has gone to New York with his wife to represent Bangladesh at the 81st session of the UN General Assembly. I wish his historic visit every success,” he wrote.
Ansarey described Tarique as a leading figure in Bangladesh’s democratic journey and said his engagements with important world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA would reinforce the country’s interests and global standing.
He also called on Bangladeshis living in the United States to warmly welcome the Prime Minister.
Referring to the expatriate Bangladeshis’ activities during the past one and a half decades, he said BNP supporters and other Bangladeshis in the US had raised slogans from John F Kennedy International Airport to First Avenue’s 46th Street in support of the demand for restoration of democracy.
“This time, they will leave no stone unturned to welcome their Prime Minister and create a festive atmosphere,” he said.
“Above personal hopes and expectations, Bangladesh comes first,” Ansarey wrote.
