A delegation from the Bangladesh-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group was invited to the Russian embassy for a courtesy meeting with Alexander Khozin, ambassador of Russia to Bangladesh, and Russian diplomats on 3 September.

The group has been established to strengthen relations between lawmakers of the two countries.

A friendly and cordial atmosphere, as well as positive discussions on various aspects of bilateral cooperation, characterised the meeting, according to the Embassy of Russia in Bangladesh.

Welcoming Bangladeshi parliamentarians at the meeting, Ambassador Khozin emphasised the importance of interparliamentary ties for strengthening cooperation in a wide range of spheres, and assured them of full cooperation from the Russian side.

BNP Vice-Chairman Altaf Hossain Choudhury, chairman of the Bangladesh-Russia Parliamentary Friendship Group, highlighted the special character of Russia-Bangladesh friendship, which was forged in the most difficult times for Bangladesh, when the country fought for its independence.

He said that the bilateral cooperation continues in the fields of atomic energy, agriculture, education, and people-to-people ties, and has huge potential for further development.

The MP stressed that relations with Russia are in line with the key principle of Bangladesh's foreign policy "friendship to all, malice towards none."

Mia Sattar, president of the Russian Friendship Society with Bangladesh, who has recently arrived from Moscow, conveyed greetings from the Russian parliamentarians, who are members of the friendship group with Bangladesh.

He underlined that the parliamentary group would play a direct role in increasing trust and confidence between the peoples of the two countries.
