Director General (UN) of the Foreign Ministry Saida Muna Tasneem on Tuesday said Bangla-desh, out of 116 participating countries, has been recognised as the number one contributor to the UN peacekeeping force.

Bangladeshi combined forces led by the Army have been holding this position for a few years and they are committed to retaining this status at any cost, she said.

Saida was speaking as the chief guest at a discussion on ‘Contribution of Bangladesh to the United Nations Peacekeeping Missions’ marking the International Day of Un Peacekeepers.

Chairman of the Coalition of Local NGOs, Bangladesh (CLNB) Harunur Rashid presided over the event while Major Alamgir read out a written statement about the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers in UN missions.

CLNB Chairman Harunur Rashid said the role of Bangladeshi peacekeepers is highly appreciated in foreign countries for their courageous activities and efficient handling of the situation.
