CHITTAGONG: The newly constructed World Trade Centre in Agrabad commercial area is expected to start its functioning this year for the promotion of the country’s trade and commerce.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is expected to open the trade centre soon.

Initiated by the Chittagong Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCCI), Concord Engineers and Construction Limited constructed the building based on a beautiful architectural design at a cost of Tk 2 billion. It handed over the building to CCCI on May 5 after completing the construction work.

“We’ve talked to the Prime Minister for the opening of the trade centre. She has expressed her willingness to inaugurate the centre soon,” said DCCI President Morshed Murad Ibrahim told BSS.

Equipped with all modern facilities, the trade centre will help attain the country’s overall business activities, including imports-exports, at the level of international standard, he added.

Constructed on 74.84 kathas of land, the building has an automatic integrated building management system. It has its own power sub-station, automatic gas generator and fire extinguishing facilities. The construction work of the 90.70-meter tall building was started on August 29, 2006. —BSS
