The nation will observe Shaheed Noor Hossain Day with due respect and solemnity today.
This day in 1987, Jubo League activist Noor Hossain had been killed in a police firing at zero point in the capital while participating in a procession against the autocratic rule of then military ruler HM Ershad.
On the occasion of the day, President Zillur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Friday issued separate messages to pay tribute to the memory of Shaheed Noor Hossain who laid down his life during anti-autocratic movement, reports BSS.
In his message, the President said Noor Hossain was a courageous fighter and struggled for establishing a non-communal and democratic Bangladesh.
“This day in 1987, Noor Hossain in bare body inscribed with slogans “Down with autocracy” and “Free democracy” and embraced martyrdom while taking part in an anti-autocracy march,” he added.
The democracy was re-established in continuation of his supreme sacrifice, the President further said.
In another message, the premier said the November 10 is a memorable day in the country’s movement to reestablish the democracy.
She said, “Bangladesh got back the rights to vote and food in exchange of Shaheed Nur Hossain’s supreme sacrifice.”
The Prime Minister prayed eternal peace of the departed soul and conveyed sympathy to the bereaved family members.
