Speaker for wider cooperation in agri sector with Uganda
Speaker Abdul Hamid Advocate has stressed on further expansion of cooperation especially in agriculture sector between Bangladesh and Uganda for benefit of the two people.

“The area of expanding cooperation between the two countries is enormous due to their identical nature of agricultural lands and prevailing environmental conditions,” he said when the Ugandan State Minister for Foreign Affairs Asuman Kiyingi called on him at his hotel suit in Kampala.

Abdul Hamid is now on a week-long official tour in Uganda to attend the 126th Inter Parliamentary Union (IPU) that began in the Ugandan capital Kampala on March 31, a parliament secretariat press release said here yesterday.

The Speaker during the discussion called for constituting a Parliamentary Friendship Group between the parliament of the two countries for further cementing the existing bilateral relations in Bangladesh and the Republic of Uganda. During the meeting, the state minister of foreign affaires of the East African country appreciated Bangladesh’s tremendous success in agriculture and women empowerment sectors saying that his country could share Bangladesh’s expertise for the development of agriculture in Uganda.

Lauding Bangladesh’s experiences in ensuring optimum use of farmland, he said his country can expedite its development process by using Bangladesh’s knowledge in his country.

Kiyingi invited the Bangladeshi entrepreneurs to invest Uganda for economic uplift of the two countries.

In the meeting, he sought Bangladesh’s support for his country’s candidature in the upcoming polls for the post of Secretary General of the Organisation of Islamic Countries (OIC).
