The 43rd birth anniversary of late Dhallywood superstar Salman Shah was celebrated yesterday. To mark the day in a befitting manner, different socio-cultural organisations chalked up elaborate programmes across the country. Jonakir Alo’, the second feature film of promising filmmaker Khalid Mahmud Mithu, won the Best Director award at the Brasov International Film Festival in Romania on Sunday. Managing Director of Impress Tele Film Ltd Faridur Reza Sagar received the award on behalf of Khalid Mahmud Mithu at the ceremony. Piprabidya’, a film of Mostafa Sarwar Farooki, has been nominated for two international festivals - Asia Pacific Screen Award Competition and Busan International Film Festival. The film, which is scheduled to be released across the country on October 24, has also been nominated for Busan festival under ‘Windows on Asian Cinema’. ‘Piprabidya’, which has been produced by Impress Telefilms Ltd, depicts a struggling graduate who buys a stolen phone and discovers it has a famous owner. Dhaka Padatik staged a special show of its 35th production ‘Apod’ at the Experimental Theatre Hall of Bangladesh Shilpakala Academy on Thursday. Adapted from Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore’s work with the same title, ‘Apod’ has been dramatised and directed Masum Aziz.
