EVM hacking not possibleBuet experts invent prepaid gas, electricity meters
Buet Vice-Chancellor Prof SM Nazrul Islam on Wednesday apprised President Zillur Rahman that it’s not possible at all to hack newly launched Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) as it has all kinds of safeguard to protect its system.The VC of Buet (Bangladesh University of Engineering Technology) apprised it to the President by paying a call on him at Bangabhaban. He was accompanied by pro-VC Prof M Habibur Rahman. During the meeting, the Buet VC said one of their expert engineers designed the EVM and it can be guaranteed that there is no way to manipulate the modern machine of vote casting. He also apprised the President that an experts’ panel of Buet has recently invented pre-paid gas and electricity meters that will help reducing misuse of gas and power at large scale in the country. The Buet delegation also informed the President, who is also chancellor of the university, that Buet has increased its total seat numbers to 965 from 850 during the last three years tenure of the present government. Besides, Prof Nazrul apprised the President that a 12-storey apartment is now under construction to ease the accommodation problems of the university’s employees. He also informed that the university has taken various initiatives to make the use of ICT popular amongst the common people. As part of the endeavour, Buet is imparting training to 500 experts as well as 500 common people on various fields of IT from its Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IICT). President Rahman lauded various success of Buet and directed them to further increase technological and innovative activities of the university to help the government realising its one of the core goal to build digital Bangladesh. The President also discussed on various issues related to the university’s academic, research and development programmes.
