Captive Bangladeshi army officer freed in Syria
A Bangladesh army officer, held hostage by Syrian opposition activists, was freed Wednesday in Syria at 4:00pm Bangladesh time, an ISPR press release said in Dhaka.

The release said Major Shahidur Rahman Osmani is one of the 18 Bangladeshi army officers deployed in Syria as the United Nations observers to control the ongoing critical political turmoil in the Middle Eastern country.

An agitated mob of Syrian opposition party captivated six UN observers, including Major Osmani, Tuesday while incidentally they came face-to-face with the mob during their duty time.

The commander of the UN force, deployed in Syria, took immediate steps and as a result Major Osmani was freed from grip of the opposition activists. Major Osmani is physically and mentally doing fine, the release added.

The Bangladesh Army is keeping constant contact with the Bangladeshi officers, working in Syria, and presently all of them are safe and in good health, the Inter Service Public Relations release added. —BSS
