Bangladesh and Malaysia have explored greater cooperation in aviation, tourism, investment and skills development during a high-level Bangladeshi delegation’s visit to Malaysia on 17-18 August.
The delegation, led by State Minister for Civil
Aviation and Tourism M Rashiduzzaman Millat and BIDA Executive Chairman
Chowdhury Ashik Mahmud Bin Harun, visited AirAsia’s headquarters and
operational facilities at Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 2.
AirAsia briefed the delegation on its low-cost
aviation model, including fast aircraft turnaround, digital services, automated
check-in, self-service baggage drop and other measures aimed at reducing
operating costs and passenger waiting times.
The delegation also visited ADE’s newly built
14-line MRO facility.
Later, Millat met Tony Fernandes, Group CEO of
Capital A, to discuss possible cooperation in ground handling, airport
management and related services at Bangladesh’s international airports, as well
as potential investment in the country’s aviation sector.
During a meeting with Malaysia’s Deputy Minister of
Tourism, Arts and Culture YB Tuan Chiew Choon Man in Putrajaya, the two sides
discussed increasing flight frequencies, visa facilitation, tourism promotion,
cultural exchanges and hospitality skills development.
They also explored opportunities to create more
employment for skilled Bangladeshi workers in Malaysia’s tourism and
hospitality sector.
