The government has set a target of borrowing Tk112,000 crore from the banking sector in the 2026-27 fiscal year to help finance its budget deficit.
While unveiling the national budget in parliament on
Thursday, Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury said the budget deficit
for FY2026-27 has been projected at Tk243,000 crore, equivalent to 3.6% of the
country's Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
To bridge the deficit, the government plans to
mobilise Tk127,000 crore from domestic sources and Tk116,000 crore from foreign
financing.
Of the domestic borrowing target, Tk112,000 crore is
expected to come from the banking system. The figure is slightly lower than the
Tk118,000 crore bank borrowing target set for the current fiscal year revised
budget, indicating a reduction of Tk6,000 crore.
