Thirty-nine LPG cylinder businesses have been fined Tk4.27 lakh for various irregularities during nationwide inspections to enforce government-fixed prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).
The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) imposed the fines through 23 teams conducting simultaneous drives in Dhaka city and 16 districts on Saturday, according to a press release.
The drives covered LPG dealers, wholesalers and retailers, with officials checking price displays, purchase and sales receipts, cylinder safety standards and expiry dates.
Traders were also warned against overcharging, artificial shortages, excessive stockpiling and supply disruptions.
The DNCRP instructed businesses to display updated prices and sell LPG cylinders at government-fixed rates.
Consumers were advised to check a cylinder’s weight, seal, expiry date and physical condition before purchase and collect a receipt.
Complaints about overcharging and other irregularities can be lodged with the DNCRP hotline at 16121.
The directorate said such drives would continue to safeguard consumer rights and maintain market discipline.
