Bangladesh must harness artificial intelligence (AI) to achieve its ambition of becoming a trillion-dollar economy by 2034, said Rehan Asif Asad, adviser to the prime minister for the Ministry of Posts, Telecommunications and Information Technology.
He made the remarks on Thursday while launching OneAI, a new AI platform integrated into Grameenphone’s MyGP app, bringing several leading AI models under one interface and subscription, according to a press release.
Speaking at Grameenphone’s AI&I Day at GPHouse, Rehan said AI was already reshaping economies, industries and societies, and Bangladesh needed to embrace its potential. He said the government’s role should be to create an environment where the private sector could move quickly and take the lead, backed by policy support, infrastructure and a strong AI ecosystem.
Rehan also pointed to the success of Bangladeshi students at the first Asia-Pacific Olympiad in Artificial Intelligence (APOAI), where eight students from Bangladesh won medals, including three of the 10 gold medals awarded among 129 participants from 18 countries.
“I could see the curiosity and ambition in each of them,” he said, describing the students’ achievement as a reminder of Bangladesh’s potential in AI.
He welcomed OneAI as a platform that could make AI tools more accessible, particularly for students, for learning, research and skills development.
Grameenphone CEO Yasir Azman said the company was extending its AI journey beyond internal operations by putting AI capabilities directly in the hands of millions of customers.  OneAI brings ChatGPT, Claude, Grok, DeepSeek and Gemini onto a single platform, supporting research, coding, content creation, image generation and document analysis.
