The government has announced a special incentive for rooftop solar systems with batteries, offering Tk10.50 per unit for surplus electricity supplied to the national grid.
Under the scheme, the maximum generation cost, including battery expenses, has been set at Tk8 per unit. A 20% profit and an 11.25% premium will be added, taking the incentive price to Tk10.50 per unit.
Consumers who install systems at a cost below the prescribed ceiling will be allowed to retain the savings as a dividend, according to a government notification issued on Tuesday.
Under the Net Metering Guideline 2025, consumers installing rooftop solar systems by February 28, 2027 will receive Tk10.50 per unit for surplus electricity supplied to the national grid for three years, until February 28, 2030.
The incentive will not apply to systems installed after February 28, 2027.
Electricity distribution companies will maintain records of participating consumers, the volume of electricity supplied to the grid and payment details. Incentive payments will be transferred to consumers’ bank or mobile financial service accounts, with no cash payments allowed.
Solar panels, batteries, inverters, meters and other equipment used in the systems must meet technical standards set by the Bangladesh Standards and Testing Institution (BSTI) and the Sustainable and Renewable Energy Development Authority (SREDA).
Policy support will be available through the one-stop service centre established by the Power Division, as well as electricity distribution companies’ offices at district and upazila levels.
The notification took effect on September 1, 2026.
