Bangladesh and Spain have expressed optimism about deepening bilateral trade, commerce and investment ties, with a focus on technology, renewable energy, skills development and people-to-people exchanges.
Bangladesh Ambassador to Spain Masudur Rahman made the remarks during a courtesy call on Spanish Senate President Pedro Rollán Ojeda at the Senate of Spain (Palacio del Senado) in Madrid on Wednesday, according to a press release.
The two sides discussed longstanding bilateral relations and explored ways to strengthen economic and people-to-people ties.
Rollán Ojeda spoke highly of Bangladesh’s apparel industry and products imported by major Spanish companies. He also praised the country’s private-sector-led growth and its contribution to economic development.
Ambassador Masudur invited the Senate president to visit Bangladesh with a parliamentary delegation and called for greater engagement between elected representatives and stronger people-to-people exchanges.
He also proposed establishing a bilateral parliamentary friendship body in Spain, saying it could help boost two-way trade towards $6 billion while encouraging investment and economic growth.
The ambassador urged Spanish lawmakers to encourage businesses to expand trade and investment with Bangladesh.
Discussions also covered technology transfer, renewable energy, forward linkages in the apparel and textile sectors, skills development, talent mobility, safe migration and people-to-people cooperation.
Rollán Ojeda praised the contribution of Bangladeshi nationals living in Spain, describing the diaspora as “Ambassadors of Bangladesh”.
Masudur highlighted the need for skills training and employment opportunities for new applicants under Spain’s extraordinary regularisation process.
He said skilled Bangladeshi workers could contribute to sectors including tourism and hospitality, agriculture, housing, shipping, marine services and deep-sea fishing, creating fresh momentum for the Spanish economy.
