Speakers at an open discussion on Monday stressed the vital role of youth in driving positive social transformation, fostering human values, and addressing grassroots challenges through voluntary initiatives and collective responsibility.

The Rajshahi College unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho organised the session titled "What Role Can Youth Play in Social Work?" on the college campus.

Unit President Miratuj Jahan Mili presided over the meeting, attended by Vice-President Priti Chowdhury, Event Management Secretary Tanvir Rawnak, Hospitality Secretary DM Al Amin, Shuvosangho member Opu Tarafder, and other organisers.

Addressing the gathering, participants observed that youths constitute the nation's most dynamic and resourceful segment, equipped with creative potential and the courage to confront societal issues. Channeling this vitality into humanitarian service can resolve many prevailing crises, making the practice of empathy and civic duty essential from student life.

Speakers pointed out that community service does not necessarily require massive funding or lavish arrangements. Assisting an individual within one's means, extending support during emergencies, tutoring underprivileged children, donating blood, and participating in plantation drives and clean-up campaigns all constitute meaningful social contributions.

The discussion highlighted pressing contemporary threats facing youngsters—including drug addiction, online gambling, juvenile delinquency, child marriage, environmental degradation, and rising social intolerance. Speakers urged students to cultivate personal awareness, educate peers and families, and harness social media responsibly to promote humanitarian causes and mobilise volunteers.

Outlining future operational plans, attendees underscored the need for structured teamwork, clear delegation, and needs-based community interventions to build leadership skills and ensure long-term engagement.

In her concluding remarks, Miratuj Jahan Mili described youth as the driving force of social reform, urging members to work unitedly so that individual efforts coalesce into lasting, equitable community change.
