Stressing the importance of household and environmental cleanliness in curbing mosquito-borne diseases, a discussion meeting on dengue awareness was held in Galachipa upazila of Patuakhali on Saturday afternoon.

The awareness event took place around 4:30pm at Srinath Bazar in Boalia under Galachipa Sadar union, drawing local residents, educators, journalists, and people from diverse professions.

Addressing the gathering, speakers noted that fighting dengue begins at home by denying Aedes mosquitoes any opportunity to breed in stagnant water.

They emphasised that while recognising early symptoms is important, proactive measures to identify and eliminate breeding sites—such as waterlogged yards, discarded containers, flowerpots, and unkempt drains—are critical.

"Dengue remains a pressing public health concern across the country," speakers noted, urging residents to clean homesteads, schools, markets, and public spaces on a regular basis.

They also called for widespread community outreach so that preventive habits take root both within individual households and across the wider neighbourhood.

The meeting was attended by Shuvosangho's Galachipa upazila unit convener Md Mizanur Rahman, former general secretary and Base Build Digital Academy headmaster Redwan Karim Talal, and members Shishir Kumar Halder, Md Hamidul Islam, Md Hemayet Uddin, and Md Sumon Mahmudul.

Among others, BPC School and College assistant teacher Birendra Chandra Biswas, village medical practitioner MA Manna, journalist Sohel Rana, and local residents Abdur Rob, Nizam Sikdar, Faruk Fakir, Jewel Hawlader, Jafar Hawlader, Wajed Fakir, Mizanur Shikder, Shamim Matubbor, Bhaddar Matubbor, Rubel Shikdar, and Rakib Matubbor were present.

The session concluded with an appeal to maintain personal vigilance, keep surroundings clear of waterlogging, and sustain civic cleanliness throughout the locality.
