Bashundhara Shuvosangho has distributed educational materials among underprivileged and street children at the University of Chittagong (CU) to encourage them to pursue their education.
On Friday afternoon, members of the organisation
handed over notebooks, pens and other essential educational supplies to more
than 50 children at the classroom of the “One Taka Education” initiative near
the university’s railway station.
The programme was organised to increase the
children’s interest in education, encourage them to continue their studies and
help them build a better future. The children appeared delighted and
enthusiastic after receiving the supplies.
Jannatul Ferdous Tumpa, president of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho’s Chittagong University unit, chaired the event.
“Depriving street and underprivileged children of
access to education is a great loss for our society. The smiles on their faces
as they receive new notebooks and pens inspire us to continue our work,” she
said, adding that the organisation would continue such initiatives to ensure
that no child is left behind.
Shuvosangho unit General Secretary Shahriar Munim
Sabit said education was the backbone of a nation and that depriving anyone of
its benefits posed a serious threat to the country’s future.
“As university students, it is our responsibility to
work towards ensuring everyone’s right to education. Our main objective was to
provide at least some support to underprivileged children as they embark on
their educational journey,” he said.
Responsible members and volunteers of Bashundhara
Shuvosangho were also present at the programme.
