Bashundhara Shuvosangho distributed leaflets among students of a school in Meherpur on Thursday to raise awareness about dengue prevention.
The
programme was organised by the Meherpur district unit of Bashundhara Shuvosangho
at Gopalpur Secondary School in Meherpur Sadar upazila.
Students
were given leaflets containing information on dengue prevention and the steps
to take if symptoms appear.
Speaking
at the programme, Rafiqul Alam Bakul, president of the Meherpur district unit
of Bashundhara Shuvosangho, said awareness among people was crucial to
preventing dengue.
“If
students learn where Aedes mosquitoes breed, how to destroy their breeding
grounds and what to do when dengue symptoms appear, they can play an important
role in raising awareness in their families and communities. Our main goal is
to take this message to every household,” he said.
Mohammad
Yadul Momin, an adviser to the Meherpur district unit and district
correspondent of Kaler Kantho, said a small message in a leaflet could have a
significant impact if students shared it with their families.
“Areas
around homes, rooftops, flower pots, discarded containers and other places
where water can accumulate should be cleaned regularly,” he said.
The
programme was chaired by Rafiqul Alam Bakul.
