A free three-month spoken English workshop organised by Bashundhara Shuvosangho has begun at Dhaka University (DU), aiming to improve students’ English language skills, communication abilities and confidence.

Students from different departments of the university are participating in the workshop, held on the university’s Senate Building premises.

The three-month programme focuses on spoken English, presentation skills, communication and confidence-building. Students are being encouraged to improve their skills through regular practice, interaction and the use of English in real-life situations.

The workshop is being conducted by Md Hira Sarker, founder of the DU English Language Club and director of One Academy.

“I'm pleased and proud to be working with Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s spoken English workshop,” Hira Sarker said.

“Our goal is not merely to teach English, but to help students overcome their fear and hesitation in speaking and develop the confidence to express their thoughts effectively,” he added.

He said learning spoken English is most effective through regular practice and real-life communication.

“Therefore, alongside grammar and vocabulary, we are placing emphasis on speaking, presentation and confidence-building,” he added.

Abdul Momin, president of Bashundhara Shuvosangho’s DU unit, said developing young people’s skills and confidence was one of the organisation’s key objectives.

“English communication skills play an important role in helping students advance in their academic and professional lives in today’s world. We are pleased to have taken such a timely initiative for DU students,” he said.

Members of the organisation’s DU unit said various sessions, practice activities and interactive programmes would be conducted throughout the three-month workshop.

The organisers expressed hope that the workshop would further enhance students’ English language proficiency and confidence, enabling them to present themselves more effectively in higher education, careers and leadership roles.
