Disaster Management and Relief Minister Asadul Habib Dulu has said that various initiatives are being undertaken to engage the youth in sports, bring youth back to the field and restore a sporting environment.
"As a result of these measures, sports fields
across the country that had become inactive are coming back to life, and young
people are returning to the playing fields," he said.
The minister said this while briefing journalists
after inspecting the Lalmonirhat District Stadium, the main sports venue in
Lalmonirhat, for development on Saturday, said a press release.
He said, "The government's pre-election
manifesto pledged to bring players back to the field. In line with this
commitment, the Prime Minister's Gold Cup has been launched."
For various reasons, a significant portion of the
youth had previously turned towards drugs instead of sports. Since assuming
office, the present government has taken steps to revitalize sports activities,
he noted.

Dulu mentioned that there has already been an enthusiastic response regarding
the district's playing fields, with young people returning to them.
He announced that the Deputy Commissioner's Football
Tournament for teenagers would be formally inaugurated on 10 October.
Initiatives are underway to revive the traditional rural sport of Ha-Du-Du, he
also mentioned.
The minister said, "Efforts will be made to
promote popular sports, including football, Ha-Du-Du, and cricket, at various
levels, and support is being provided to clubs that organise sporting
events."
Lalmonirhat Deputy Commissioner Md Rashedul Haque Prodhan,
District Council Administrator AKM Mominul Haque, officials and political
leaders were present on the occasion.
Subsequently, after inspecting the venue for the “Hamar
Lalmoni” exhibition event, the minister distributed cheques for grants received
from the prime minister's special fund and the Ministry of Social Welfare to
the concerned individuals.
