A Dhaka court on Monday placed two accused, Sabbir Hossain, 18, and Fahim Ishrak Labib, 20, on a three-day remand each in a case filed over an attack on Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) Professor Dr Md Asadur Rahman.
Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Ariful Islam passed
the order, said Prosecution Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman.
Earlier, Paltan Model Police Station Sub-Inspector
Md Atikuzzaman, also the investigation officer of the case, sought a 10-day
remand for the accused.
According to the case statement, Dr Asadur came out
of his chamber at Popular Diagnostic Centre in the capital’s Shantinagar area
at around 10:00pm on 17 August and got into a CNG-run auto-rickshaw.
Later, four men stopped the vehicle and asked the
driver to open the door. The accused then allegedly assaulted Dr Asadur
repeatedly, leaving injuries to his head, above both eyes and different parts
of his body.
Police from Paltan Police Station later rescued Dr
Asadur and took him to DMCH for treatment. Dr Asadur filed a case with Paltan
Model Police Station on 18 August over the incident.
