Prime Minister's Education Adviser Mahdi Amin said on Sunday that the four new textbooks being introduced for the 2027 academic year reflect Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's long-term vision, experience and commitment to reforming Bangladesh's education system.
Speaking at the inauguration of a workshop to
finalise the framework of the new primary and secondary-level textbooks at the
International Mother Language Institute in Dhaka, Mahdi said the prime minister
has worked on education for decades, and his ideas have been incorporated into
the government's election manifesto and current education reforms.
He said the proposed "Learning with
Happiness" textbook should be more visually engaging than traditional textbooks
by incorporating more illustrations, diagrams, tables and other visual elements
to make learning enjoyable for students.
Mahdi also suggested adding an introductory chapter
explaining the philosophy, objectives and practical application of the new curriculum
to help teachers and students better understand its purpose.
On technical education, he stressed the need to
eliminate the stigma surrounding vocational studies and said the government
plans to establish technical education laboratories in every school, from rural
institutions to the country's top urban schools, so that all students gain
practical skills.
He noted that curriculum development is an ongoing
process and said the government is simultaneously correcting factual errors and
historical distortions found in existing textbooks to ensure an objective
presentation of history.
The adviser praised officials of the National
Curriculum and Textbook Board (NCTB) and subject experts for completing the
development of the four new textbooks within a few months, describing it as a
major achievement.
He said the government aims to deliver textbooks to
every student by 1 January, requiring the printing and distribution of nearly
31 crore books across the country by mid-November.
Education Minister Ehsanul Haque Milon, State Minister
for Culture Ali Newaz Mahmood Khyom, State Minister for Primary and Mass
Education Bobby Hajjaj, State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque, and
senior education officials also attended the event.
