Govt appoints Irene Khan as permanent representative to UN

The government has appointed human rights activist Irene Khan as Bangladesh’s ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations.

She has been assigned the rank of a state minister, and will enjoy all the relevant financial and other benefits during her tenure, said a press release issued by the Cabinet Division on Wednesday.

Irene replaces Salahuddin Noman Chowdhury as the permanent representative to the UN.
