Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has said that he is experiencing “immense pressure” in carrying out his responsibilities, citing the country's numerous challenges, existing limitations, and the high expectations of people from all walks of life.
Speaking at an interaction with journalists in Dhaka
on Tuesday afternoon, the prime minister said he had observed the same sense of
happiness among people following the election that some journalists had
described, BBC Bangla reported.
However, he noted that the responsibility of leading
the government comes with significant pressure due to the country's many
problems and the high hopes citizens have placed in the administration.
Tarique said that despite public optimism, the
government faces considerable challenges and constraints.
“At the same time, the expectations of people from
different professions and backgrounds are very high. So I feel an enormous
amount of pressure in this role,” he said.
Recalling a remark made by his father and former
President Ziaur Rahman, the prime minister said he recently told colleagues
during a drive home from the office that his father once remarked that if a day
had 48 hours instead of 24, more work could be accomplished.
Tarique said he now understands that feeling, noting
that his days pass so quickly between work commitments that he hardly notices
when evening arrives.
