A Dhaka court on Wednesday ordered the freezing of five bank accounts, 13 Wage Earners’ Bonds, and 87 fixed deposit receipts (FDRs) belonging to former Expatriates’ Welfare and Overseas Employment Minister Khandaker Mosharraf Hossain over allegations of acquiring wealth inconsistent with known sources of income.
Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge (acting) Md Alamgir passed the order following a petition filed by Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) Deputy Assistant Director Sabikun Nahar.
According to the petition, the current balance in the five bank accounts stands at Tk66,376 and USD 16,419. The purchase value/current balance of the 13 Wage Earners’ Bonds is Tk1.24 crore, while the balance in the 87 FDRs amounts to Tk27.07 crore.
The petition states that the accused acquired assets worth Tk35.18 crore through bribery and corruption, which are inconsistent with his known sources of income.
He allegedly conducted suspicious and abnormal transactions amounting to Tk99.21 crore and USD 1,133,816 through bank accounts, and transferred, relocated, and converted those funds—acts that constitute punishable offences.
Meanwhile, in a separate petition on the same allegations, the court also ordered the seizure of his income tax records. The petition said that it is essential to seize all relevant records, including the main income tax documents of the accused from the beginning up to the 2024–2025 tax year, along with all permanent and miscellaneous sections, in the interest of a fair investigation.
