Top criminal Khandakar Naim Ahmed Titon has been gunned down on the streets of Dhaka.
Titon was the brother-in-law of another infamous top
terrorist, Sanjidul Islam Imon. Law enforcement sources suggest that Imon
himself is a suspect in the killing.
The incident occurred at around 7:45pm on Tuesday at
the "Bottola" area in front of Dhaka University's Shah Nawaz Hostel,
located on the west side of New Market.
Titon was ranked No-2 on the government’s list of 23
"Most Wanted" top terrorists released in 2001. Police believe the
assassination is a result of internal feuds between rival criminal factions.
Masud Alam, deputy commissioner (DC) of the Ramna
Division, confirmed to the media that the deceased has been identified as Naim
Ahmed Titon.
"We are working to identify and apprehend those
involved," he said. He noted that while there were no CCTV cameras at the
exact spot of the crime, police are collecting footage from surrounding areas
and interviewing witnesses to gather more details.
Molla Shahadat, sub-inspector (SI) of New Market
Police Station, provided further details on the ambush.
"Around 7:45pm, several miscreants arrived on a
motorcycle and opened fire indiscriminately at the victim. He was shot five to
six times at point-blank range in the head and various parts of his body. The
attackers fled the scene immediately."
Passersby rescued the bullet-ridden Titon and rushed
him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH), where doctors pronounced him dead
at 8:27pm.
This incident follows the daylight murder of another
former top terrorist, Tariq Saif Mamun, on 10 November 2025 in front of
National Medical College in Old Dhaka. Investigations revealed that Titon’s
brother-in-law, Imon, was the mastermind behind Mamun's killing.
According to police records, Titon entered the
underworld in the early 1990s as a member of a local gang. Over time, he
expanded his criminal empire, leading multiple murders and establishing a
powerful illegal arms smuggling network.
Among the numerous cases against him, the murder of
businessman Babar Elahi is the most prominent.
Titon was arrested by law enforcement in 2004 from
the Dhaka Cantonment area. In 2014, he was sentenced to death for the Babar Elahi
murder case. However, after serving a long sentence, he was released on bail
from the Kashimpur High Security Jail on 12 August 2024.
Police records state that Naim Ahmed Titon was born
in 1966. He was the son of KM Fakhruddin and Aklima Begum.
