On the second day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Cox’s Bazar sea beach has transformed into a vibrant mosaic of life and celebration, as waves of tourists pour in from morning till dusk—breathing fresh energy into every stretch of the shoreline and turning the entire coastline into a lively festival of joy.
Even on Saturday, on Eid day afternoon, tourists
gathered at the beach despite light drizzles. In particular, the rainbow that
lingered in the sky for a long time over the beach, the breathtaking sunset
after the clouds cleared, and the cool breeze greatly enhanced the festive joy
of Eid for visitors.
Tourism-related business owners said that the sea
shore had remained almost silent throughout the month of Ramadan.
However, as soon as the Eid holidays began, Cox’s
Bazar sea beach regained its vibrancy. With the combination of natural beauty
and Eid festivities, the beach is now bustling with tourists. The number of
visitors continues to grow with time.
Before Eid, tourism stakeholders had estimated that
around 1 to 1.1 million tourists might visit Cox’s Bazar during this Eid
season, generating business worth around a Tk100 crore.
A visit to the beach showed that tourists from
different parts of the country were enjoying themselves at all points including
Kolatoli, Sugandha, and Laboni beaches.
Families and friends were bathing in the sea, riding
jetskis, and enjoying bike and horse rides along the shore. The sandy beach,
blue waters, and breeze together made the moments even more joyful for the
visitors.
Roksana Rahman, a tourist from Motijheel in Dhaka,
said that she came to Cox’s Bazar for the first time with her mother, sister,
and nephew.
“So, the joy of Eid feels doubled. Today is our
second day here. We still have a week ahead. I hope we can visit more places
and enjoy even more,” she said.
Hemaet Hossain Talukder, who came from Rajshahi,
said that celebrating Eid with his family in Cox’s Bazar feels like a dream.
“The sea, hills, and green forests are truly amazing,” he said.
Nazma Akter, from Anwara in Chattogram, said she
enjoyed swimming in the sea and bike riding on the beach. She also appreciated
the increased presence of tourists during Eid as well as the security
arrangements.
Umm-e-Habiba, a tourist from Sylhet, told BSS that
Cox’s Bazar is a centre of extraordinary natural beauty by the sea. “Staying
here with family is a new experience, especially spending time with small
children is very enjoyable,” she said.
Inspector Parvez Ahmed of the Tourist Police Cox’s
Bazar Zone said that a three-tier security system has been put in place to
ensure safe travel for tourists during Eid. Alongside uniformed police
personnel, surveillance teams in plain clothes and intelligence teams are
active in the field, he said adding that all teams are working in shifts round
the clock.
Beach worker supervisor Md Belal Hossain said they
are working to ensure tourist safety. Risky areas of the beach have been
identified and visitors are being warned.
“Our goal is to ensure tourists can safely enjoy sea
bathing and recreation without any trouble,” he said.
Team leader of Cox’s Bazar Sea Safe Lifeguard
organisation, Imtiaz Ahmed, said a large number of tourists are expected during
the Eid holidays. Red flags are being used in risky areas to warn visitors, and
efforts are being made to ensure safe swimming.
Abul Kashem Sikder, president of the Cox’s Bazar
Hotel-Motel and Guesthouse Owners Association, said that from the day after
Eid, an average of around 100,000 tourists may arrive daily, and this trend
could continue for about 10 days.
During this period, the tourism sector may generate
business worth around Tk100 crore.
Cox’s Bazar Superintendent of Police ANM Sajedur
Rahman said that district police are working in coordination with the Tourist Police
to ensure tourist safety.
Special patrol teams, including plainclothes units,
are active in areas adjacent to the beach, he said.
Cox’s Bazar Deputy Commissioner Md Abdul Mannan said
there is a strong possibility of a huge influx of tourists during the Eid
holidays.
To ensure their safety, extensive preparations have
been taken by the district administration, he said.
